Contaminated soil and groundwater can now be treated in situ efficiently and cost effectively thanks to recent developments in chemical oxidation/reduction techniques. A wide range of compounds including peroxide, ozone, persulfate, permanganate and nanoscale iron can be applied directly to zones of high contaminant concentrations without the need for excavation or off-site disposal.
