Dredging of Contaminated Sediments

A major hurdle to removing contaminated sediments from the aquatic environment has long been the re-suspension of the sediment in the water column. In attempting to mitigate an environmental liability, the situation can be made worse by re-suspending contaminants, resulting in their dispersion across a wider area.

GAIA has developed an innovative technique for dredging contaminated sediments. Combining robust, proven dredging technology with sophisticated positioning systems and software, this technique provides a low turbidity solution for dredging contaminated sediments. Developed specifically to minimize turbidity and virtually eliminate re-dispersion of contaminants, the technique makes remediation possible for sites previously considered either too costly or too environmentally sensitive to tackle.

In conjunction with parent company Golder, GAIA can provide full turnkey solutions for contaminated sediment remediation from initial investigation and permitting through to final disposal and post-dredging bio-physical surveys. Each dredging program is customized to provide the specific services necessary to achieve the project objectives.
