Revegetation

The revegetation of disturbed areas on a site is usually the most visible long-term aspect of any closure project. Site location, topography, climate, soil conditions and regulatory requirements all play a major role in the success of any revegetation project.

Successful revegetation minimizes visual intrusion and controls wind and water erosion. Revegetation also provides habitats for wildlife and prepares the way for the re-establishment of native vegetation.

GAIA has used different types of organic soil amendments such as wood waste and paper mill sludges in innovative approaches to revegetation, and has completed successful revegetation programs on a variety of soil conditions, including direct seeding on acid and alkaline tailings.
